The Essence of Ramadhan: Worship, Justice, and Good Character

The Essence of Ramadhan: Worship, Justice, and Good Character

Allah says, “Indeed, Allah commands justice, good conduct, and giving to relatives and forbids immorality, bad conduct, and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded. (Surah An-Nahl 16:90)

Allah commands us to practice ‘adl (justice) in worship and daily life and to go beyond that–to live with ihsan (excellence and kindness.)

Ramadhan is a time to balance our duties—between worship, work, family, and self-care; to increase acts of kindness; to reconnect with family; to avoid immorality (fahsha); to prevent evil (munkar);  to stay away from oppression (baghy); to reflect and increase gratitude.

This one Ayah can serve as a roadmap for a spiritual reset. It calls for a balanced and purposeful life—something the month of fasting is designed to cultivate. If we apply this Ayah during Ramadhan, it transforms our character, makes our ibadah more meaningful, and brings us closer to Allah.

O Allah, make us just, kind, and pure-hearted. Aameen.
