Raising the Station: When Allah Tests His Chosen Servants

Ibn Ata’illah beautifully reminds us in his Hikam:

“When He gives, He shows you His kindness. When He deprives, He shows you His power. And in all that, He is making Himself known to you and coming to you with His gentleness.”

Sometimes, Allah places a servant through immense trials because the only way for them to reach their destined spiritual rank is through tribulation.

A story is told of a knower of Allah who, on his deathbed, was surrounded by chaos—his children were fighting, His affairs seeme unsettled—yet, in that moment, his heart was completely at peace with Allah. This was the final trial through which Allah elevated his station, stripping away the last attachments of this world and making him focus solely on his Lord.

Sometimes, the most difficult tests at the end of life are not punishments, but the means by which Allah grants His beloved servants the highest stations—ones they could never attain through deeds alone.
